Polyimide (PI) is a new type of high temperature resistant thermosetting engineering plastics. It can maintain high physical and mechanical properties in a wide range of temperatures from -269 ℃ to 400℃, and can be used in the air from -240 ℃ to 260℃ for a long time. It also has excellent electrical insulation, wear resistance, high temperature radiation resistance and physical and mechanical properties. Therefore, it is widely used in electromechanical, electronic and electrical, instrumentation, petrochemical, metering and other fields, and has become one of the indispensable materials in global rocket, aerospace and other cutting-edge science and technology fields.
Since the industrial production of polyimide was first realized by DuPont Company in the United States, Toray DuPont, Ube Shikyo, Zhongyuan Chemical and Mitsubishi Chemical Company in Japan developed and produced polyimide resin and film successively. The former Soviet Union also developed more than 20 varieties and brands successively. In addition, Japanese polyimide company also built a set of 400 tons/year of thermosetting bismaleimide equipment, the former French company Ronald Planck can also produce polyamide-imide resin.
From the perspective of demand, the main areas of polyimide consumption are concentrated in the United States, Japan and Western Europe. According to statistics, in 2000, the demand for polyimides in the United States, Japan and Western Europe was 10,000 tons, 3,000 tons and 3,200 tons respectively, mainly for the production of molded parts, enameled wire coatings and film.
In recent years, major foreign companies have been expanding the production scale of polyimides, developing new varieties and new brands, seeking ways to further reduce the cost, and further improving the processing properties of polyimides by developing thermoplastic polyimides and adopting blending modification methods. For example, the modification of polyimide and bismaleimide, bismaleimide and epoxy resin can improve the processability and other properties of the material.
At present, polyimide HF composite film is mainly used in the manufacture of H - class film conductors and aviation conductors. Among them, H-class thin film conductor is mainly used in electric locomotive and diesel locomotive motor, aviation conductor is mainly used in aircraft power line and instrument line. Polyetherimide plastic products have been widely used not only in high-tech fields such as rockets and satellites, but also in automobile, office equipment, home appliances, mechanical seal parts and other fields. In addition, with the development of the electronics industry in recent years, the amount of flexible polyimide copper foil is also increasing, and the composite material made of bismaleimide and epoxy resin also has a broad application prospect in the field of aerospace.
The research of polyimide in China began as early as 1960s. By the end of last century, the total annual production capacity of China had exceeded 500 tons, and it is expected that the annual production capacity will reach 1,000 tons by 2005.However, compared with foreign developed countries, the production scale of China's current polyimide resin and film is small, the price and cost are higher, the product quality also has a certain gap.Therefore, to further improve the product quality, increase the development of series of products and raw material production technology, improve the international competitiveness, will become the focus of China's polyimide industry development in the future.
